Time flies by

Another weekend gone by too fast.

It takes forever to get here, and then, before we are ready, the Monday morning alarm kicks us out of bed at 6AM, and it starts again.

At least this weekend I accomplished a few things on my list.

Oh the list…”write it down and it will happen” they say.

Everyone has a list right? I guess some are just longer than others. I love my list. It shows me what needs to be done in what order, and then the best part—it feels awesome to cross stuff off!

This weekend was filled with cleaning, organizing, birthday party and a last minute diorama project that is due tomorrow. Love the last minute projects.

Since I have one that graduated high school last year I am well prepared for the next two who are about to enter years of homework and procrastination habits. My daughter is in first grade and it is already starting. My son will be going into kindergarten and I am already trying to prepare him as well.

Yes I am starting all over again!

Three weeks ago we were picking up vegetables to start our garden and my 5 year old son got in front of me while walking and I kicked his gym shoe.

Mind you they are 50 pound sketchers (with the lights flashing and all) and they broke my middle toe. The pain was unbelievable. I sometimes wonder how I had all three of my children without drugs.

The following day I was at my office where I have been doing a lot more sports injuries with my Endermologie machine. So I decided why not try it on my toe to see what would happen. I was really surprised at how much swelling there was and how red it was.

Now after about 25 minutes of working on my toe I saw almost all the swelling go down and the redness really mellowed out.

For the rest of the week I ran the machine on my toe and what a wonderful recovery I experienced. Each time I use that machine it amazes me. The benefits are astounding, and after using it on my own body I know its true potential as a recovery accelerator.

I had to put off the gardening for a little while, but now we are back in business!

Skin Tip: Do you know about your sunscreen and how does it work?

Written by Hannah Holmes

When you go into the sun, your particular skin takes X minutes to turn pink. This interval is your personal Minimal Erythemal Dose (MED), and a light-skinned person’s is less than 15 minutes. An SPF, or sun protective factor, simply indicates how many times your MED you can safely linger outside: If your MED is 10 minutes and you’re wearing SPF 20, you’re protected for 200 minutes. If my MED is 15 minutes and I’m wearing SPF 20, I’m protected for 300 minutes.

Offered by Consumer Reports:

  • Apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before going out in the sun to allow for absorption. Reapply every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating heavily.
  • Watch your clothes. All of the products stain when applied directly to various fabrics and left to sit for a day. Only about half the labels warned about staining.
  • Discard sunscreen that is more than two years old because it might have lost its potency. If it has no expiration date when you buy it, mark one yourself with a permanent marker.
  • Don’t rely on sunscreen alone to protect you from skin cancer. Wear tightly woven clothing and a hat, limit sun time, and seek shade during the hottest hours of the day.
  • Hot days are upon us and sunscreen is a must. Our biggest reflection of sun during the day is our car windows. Always have some sunscreen in your car for your hands.
  • Sunscreen over 30 SPF is not necessary. The newest debate is the higher the SPF the more chemicals in the product. Let’s get educated and lets protect our skin.

Calling all mothers, single parents, all career women, and business owners

How do we do it? How much more can we do? Here I am at 8:40PM on a Thursday evening thinking about these questions.

Twenty years ago I became pregnant with my first child. At the age of 22, pregnant, and worried about my future and that of my baby, I decided to go to school. I needed a way to provide for my child as a single mother. I earned my Aesthetician License in less than six months and never looked back.

Since then I have been blessed. I am one of the select few people who absolutely love their career.

That is how I was able to raise my child by myself for the next 10 years. I then married my husband. He told me that I no longer had to work and that I could stay at home to be a mommy. After giving birth to my next daughter, I realized how much I truly missed working.

When she was just 4 weeks old, I went right back to work…as an aesthetician…at home.  Picture me doing a bikini wax while the client held my newborn, laying down on my kitchen floor on a beach towel!

Then I had my third and final baby and within a month I went right back to work and I still love every minute. So I guess there is no surprise that when my youngest went off to preschool I opened my own spa and really started my career.

I really had no idea what owning my own place would take but after 22 months I am have some idea of what it is all about.

It’s tiring, and sometimes I struggle with motivation. I just want to pack it all up and say “what’s the use?” but then some random person reminds me why I am doing this and urges me to keep on going.

Now I am here, sharing my story with whoever you are, and wondering how many out there are in my shoes.

In my blogs I would like to give out some useful information but I believe what is useful for some might not be what is useful for others. So I will just put out there that if anyone has skin questions or concerns I will do my best to get you the answers you need.

I am proud of eighteen years of working in the cosmetic industry and working on thousands of people with all different skin types and skin issues. I would be happy to give skin tips on each blog, after my entries on what it’s like to be an entrepreneur mom. If there is something specific you would like to know about just let me know! :)

BTW, I love spiritual quotes and cool sayings. I’ll be sharing more of them. I really enjoy this one:

Feel appreciation for those who provide examples of Well-being. How would you know that prosperity was possible if there wasn’t some evidence of prosperity around you? It’s all part of this contrast that helps you to sharpen your desire.

— Abraham

So here it is—my first blog. That was definitely more fun than I thought it would be.

Blessings to all,

Jacquelyn Mills

appear to kill microbes on contact. This is information we can all use.
